The Department started in 1954 with the Graduate Course in Botany.
The Post-Graduate Course in the Department began in the year 2008.

ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES.
Many activities are conducted during the semester programme which are relevant to the topics covered.
1. Collection and conservation of rare and endemic plants etc.
2. Project works -medicinal plants economically important plants, ornamental plants,nursery,gardens and mushroom cultivation etc.
3. Maintenance of plant diversity, botanical trips – to study wild plant diversity ,study of ecosystems and to inculcate the research knowledge to the students.
5. Tree plantations and maintenance of compost pits organic manure pits.
7. Supporting NSS and NGC work. Organization of guest lectures and workshops
9. Visits to nurseries & gardens. Botany club. Celebrating the days of national & scientific importance.
